Cincinnati Pops to perform in Troy, Ohio

Cincinnati Pops is a pops orchestra based in Cincinnati, Ohio, founded in 1977 out of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Its members are also the members of the Cincinnati Symphony, and the Pops is managed by the same administration. Erich Kunzel, the Pops' founding conductor, continued to lead the Pops until his death on September 1, 2009.

  Cincinnati Symphony Returns

A summertime tradition, The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra conducted by Vince Lee, will present “Celebrate America” on the Public Square in downtown Troy, Ohio on Friday, July 1 at 8:00 p.m. Vocal soloist will be Julie Spangler and instrumental solos will be performed by members of the orchestra. The program will feature American classics like John Philip Sousa’s “The Picadore March”, musical selections from movie hits like “Pirates of the Caribbean and “Superman”, Broadway classics from “Annie Get Your Gun” and a bit of rock and roll including “YMCA”. The “Stars and Stripes Forever” final will conclude this star spangled evening.

During the concert intermission, The Troy Area Chamber of Commerce will recognize both an individual and an organization for their outstanding contributions to the Troy community with the 2011 Community Service Awards. The Troy Foundation will present the individual chosen with a $1,000.00 check to donate to the charity of his or her choice and will present the organization chosen with $1,000.00 to assist with their program funding.

In case of rain, the concert will take place at the Troy Christian High School auditorium, 700 S. Dorset Road.

The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra Concert is presented by The Troy Foundation and the City of Troy, and is open to the public at no charge. Anyone wishing to make a donation to the concert may do so by mailing their check made payable to The Troy Foundation to the Foundation office at 216 W. Franklin St., Troy OH 45373.
